To see how the 2016 Honda CR-V stacks up against the Chevy Equinox, continue reading below!

Standard Fuel Economy

No one wants to spend any more time at the gas pump than they have to, and thanks to Honda's efficient powertrain in the CR-V, you can refuel less frequently than other crossovers like the Chevy Equinox. With an EPA-estimated 26 city/33 highway/29 combined mpg rating, the CR-V is way ahead of Chevrolet's Equinox when it comes to fuel economy. Honda's 2.4-liter engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), which helps the CR-V achieve its impressive fuel economy ratings. The Chevy Equinox also features a 2.4-liter engine, but it isn't nearly as efficient, returning an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of just 22 city/32 highway/26 combined mpg. That is certainly a far cry from Honda's popular crossover; in fact, the CR-V bests the Equinox in fuel economy by a significant three mpg on average! All-wheel drive systems are available on both crossovers, and if you choose that route, you will find that the CR-V is more fuel efficient in AWD trim, too.

Standard Power

The 2.4-liter engines that are found under the hoods of the 2016 Honda CR-V and Chevy Equinox both provide capable power, but the Honda edges out the Chevy in both horsepower and torque. The greatest difference is in torque, where the CR-V's 181 lb.-ft. of torque represents a 9-lb.-ft. torque advantage over the Equinox. If the slight advantage in horsepower and torque does not seem that significant, keep in mind that the CR-V also weighs much less than the Chevrolet. At over 400 pounds lighter than the Equinox, the 2016 CR-V will certainly feel quicker, more capable, and more sporty out on the roads. When you want power and fuel efficiency in your new crossover, the choice is clear: the 2016 Honda CR-V.

Passenger Space

If you plan on transporting friends or family in your new crossover, then you will want to find one that offers ample seating space for all five passengers. With its 104.1 cubic feet of passenger volume, the 2016 Honda CR-V provides over four more cubic feet of passenger volume than its rival from Chevrolet, the 2016 Equinox. That additional passenger space can be felt throughout the entire cabin, as the CR-V offers more front legroom, front and second-row shoulder room, as well as more second-row hip room. When you are shopping for a compact crossover, why not choose the one that is more spacious and versatile?

Cargo Capacity

The cabin of Honda's popular CR-V compact crossover is much more spacious than the Chevy Equinox, including in the cargo area. Standard cargo capacity, or the space available when the second row of seats is in the upright position, in the 2016 CR-V is a superb 37.2 cubic feet, compared to a mere 31.5 in the 2016 Equinox. A 60/40 split-folding rear bench seat with manually adjustable headrests and fold-down center armrest comes standard on the 2016 CR-V but is not available on the Equinox base model, which may partially explain why the CR-V's maximum cargo capacity is far superior to that of the Equinox. When you fold down the CR-V's 60/40 split-folding rear seatbacks, cargo space in the CR-V balloons to an incredible 70.9 cubic feet. In the Equinox, you will find a maximum cargo capacity of just 63.7 cubic feet, and less versatility for carrying cargo, since a 60/40 split-folding rear seat is not available. As you can see, Honda's 2016 CR-V provides significantly more cargo capacity and versatility than the Chevrolet, whether the rear seats are up or down. For more versatility and space for both passengers and cargo, choose the 2016 Honda CR-V!

Standard Features

Honda's popular small crossover is all about versatility and value; the great value is especially evident when you see the long list of standard features on the CR-V. Desirable features like overhead console storage, CD player, and 60/40 split-folding rear bench seats come standard on the 2016 CR-V, but are not available on the 2016 Equinox. While both crossovers come standard with a rearview camera, the camera on the CR-V is a step above, thanks to its innovative technology. Honda's innovative Multi-Angle Rearview Camera with Guidelines gives drivers a better view of what is behind, thanks to its three different angles: normal, top-down, and wide. Some of the additional features that are standard on every Honda CR-V include:
